Presentation on Child and Youth Mental Health

posted Sep 30, 2015, 8:00 AM by St. Philip School

Although we just received this information this morning, we hope it is enough notice for those that would be interested in attending.

A reminder of this evening’s joint presentation on child and youth mental health by The Royal and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), taking place at 7 pm at Sir Robert Borden High School.

What is the mental health profile of children and youth today? How has it changed in a generation? The Royal and CHEO have seen a dramatic increase in children and youth seeking help, and in the severity of mental illness. Dr. Smita Thatte, Director of The Royal’s Youth Psychiatry Program and Dr. Hazen Gandy, Division Chief of Community-Based Psychiatric Services at CHEO, will talk about the differences in the mental health of children and youth today, what that means for parents, potential warning signs, and how parents can support their kids. OCDSB psychologist Dr Timothy Hogan will provide an overview of OCDSB policies and resources relating to child and youth mental health.
