The Gym is open again to the students! The new enlarged gym has new multisport flooring, 1 full size volleyball court, 3 full size badminton courts, a divider curtain that allows us to accommodate two classes at the same time, new basketball backstops, a new ventilation system, a new large projector screen, and a new retractable stage.
We are sadly a couple of weeks behind schedule for the two new Kindergarten classrooms. Originally, we planned to open these spaces to students earlier this past week. Unfortunately, the contractor needs a little more time due to a delay in structural steel arriving on site. This delay has caused the roofing work to fall behind schedule and with the roof behind schedule, the contractor was unable to install drywall in the classrooms. The exterior of the kindergarten classrooms has been fully insulated with spray foam insulation, and the exterior brick is starting to go up, and the exterior windows and doors are being completed this week. Now that the roof is being completed, work can start on the interior of the classrooms and we plan to have these classrooms available the first week of November.
In the two-storey addition we were waiting for the same late structural steel delivery. Now that the steel is on site, the contractor is working on finishing the roof structure. The steel stairs were craned into the stairwells last week.
The courtyard is nearly complete and will be a wonderful new outdoor play space for the students.
Attendance at school is important!
Regular school attendance in the early years is an important part of healthy childhood development. It provides children with routine, social interaction opportunities, and exposure to important academic building blocks.
Consistent routines help support children’s emotional regulation, cognitive development, and sense of safety which contribute to the conditions that support growth and learning.
Young learners who are supported in developing the habit of regular school attendance as they begin their school journey, are more likely to experience academic success, develop strong social skills, and establish a solid foundation for lifelong learning.

Please note that parents cannot drop off and pick up students on Burke Street. We have several more buses this year than last year, and buses need this space to park or to complete their routine checks. All student drop-offs and pick-ups need to take place off Fortune Street.
Please note that our student drop off and pick up processes were designed with the safety and supervision of all students in mind. Creating additional drop off and pick up locations create supervision issues for staff.
We acknowledge the concerns about the safety and congestion on Fortune Street. We need all parents to be diligent and act responsibly for the safety of our students. OSTA recommends "walk a block" to ease congestion.
Students are asked to leave umbrellas at home. There is no need for umbrellas to be brought to school.
Students are to come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. As the temperatures drop, warmer layers, hats and mitts in students' backpacks, and extra socks are encouraged. Students will still be going outside for recess and outdoor play.
School Photos will take place November 3rd.
Our Meet the Educator event will take place on Thursday October 22nd from 5:00 to 6:00. Please note that this is an opportunity for you to meet your child's educators and see their classrooms. If you wish to speak to your child's educators about how they are doing at school you will be able to book an interview time for November 19th, or you can reach out to arrange for a phone call.
